How to add a menu to your Google Business Profile
Open your Business Profile, select Edit menu, and add your dishes with their descriptions and prices in sections such as starters and mains. Google says the changes can take 24–48 hours to show on Maps and Search. You can also build the menu from a photo or PDF, upload menu photos, and link the menu page on your own site.
Key takeaways
- Google offers the menu editor to food and drink businesses.
- Some owners see an option to copy a menu Google already holds from another source into the editor and correct it there.
- Building a menu from a photo or PDF is an experimental feature, and the whole menu has to fit on one page in one photo.
- When Google finds your menu in more than one place, you choose which one the profile shows.
- Dish names you add in the Google Maps app take precedence over names customers add.
Why put your menu on Google at all?
Someone choosing where to eat tonight often decides from the Business Profile without opening your website. Google's setup guide for restaurants lists the menu beside hours, photos and reservations, and counts clicks on your menu content among the numbers worth watching. Its local ranking page says businesses with complete and accurate details are more likely to show up in local results, so a menu with real dish names gives a search like "ramen near me" something to match. For a restaurant, café or bar, the menu is the first thing on the profile worth getting right.
How do you add a menu to Google Business Profile?
1. Check that you can use the menu editor
Google offers the menu editor to food and drink businesses. If your menu reaches Google through the Business Profile API, for example from a group's central system, you may not see the editor in Business Profile or Search.1
2. Add sections and dishes
Go to your Business Profile and select Edit menu. Choose Add menu section, name it, and add its first item; then choose Add menu item for each dish, with its description and price, and select Save. Group the dishes the way your printed menu does, such as starters, mains and desserts, so guests can scan it.1
3. Or build it from a photo or PDF
Under Edit menu, select Photos of menu, upload a photo or PDF of your menu and choose Generate a menu. Google's AI picks out the section names, dishes, descriptions and prices. Check every line before you select Publish and edit. Blurry or low-contrast photos may not work well.1
4. Upload your own menu photos
Customers can add photos of your menu too, and theirs may be out of date. Upload your current menu as a photo or PDF under Photos of menu, then flag any old customer photo for removal.1
5. Add the link to your menu page
Select Edit profile, then Business information, Contact and Menu link, and paste the address of the menu on your website. A menu page on your own site is the one you can change in a minute; our free menu maker turns a price list into one, with a QR code for the table.1
6. Pick your preferred menu
Google may also read your menu from your website or from a third-party provider. When it finds more than one, the Menu tab shows each source and when it was last updated. Under Edit menu, open the Full menu tab and select the source you want guests to see. You can also opt out of Google transcribing the menu from your website.1
7. Name your popular dishes
In the Google Maps app, open your listing, tap Menu, then Add, and give a dish a photo and its name. Customers can name dishes from their own photos as well, so correct a wrong name with Suggest an edit. Google says it aims to post dish name edits within a few days but does not promise to.2
