How do I check where my business ranks on Google Maps?

Searching it yourself misleads you, because Google shapes results by where you are, your device and what you searched before. A fairer check searches from your business's own spot with no history. Type the search a customer would make, like "dentist near me", and pick your business above. You see whether you're in the map pack on Google's results page, your place in Google Maps' first 100 and in Google search's first 30, and who comes up first. It is one spot at one moment, so a customer across town can see a different order.

Is the local rank checker free?

Yes, and you don't need an account. You can run 3 checks a day, and the same search for the same business shows the same result for the rest of that day.

Why is it different when I search myself?

Google changes its results by where you are, your device and what you searched before. This tool searches once from your business's own spot, as a computer with no search history would. A customer a few streets away, or on a phone, can see a different order.

What does "Not in the top 100" mean?

Google Maps listed up to 100 places for that search from your spot, and yours wasn't one of them. For Google search we read the first 30 results. Try the words your customers use, and check that your listing's categories say what you do.

My business isn't on Google Maps. Can I still check?

Yes. Choose "Check from an address", add your website and pick the address. You see who comes up first on Maps there, and where your website comes up in Google search.

Can you get me to number 1?

Nobody can promise a ranking. Google ranks local results mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. A complete listing, more good reviews and a website that says what you do help with the parts you control.

Is my search saved?

Each check and its result are kept for up to 40 days, so a repeat shows at once and the free checks stay within their limits. Your connection is kept as a scrambled code, never as your IP address.
