llms.txt generator
A free tool for website owners that writes the short text file telling AI tools what your site is and which of its pages to read. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
Your llms.txt
Add your site's name and your file appears here.
Where to put the file
Keep the name
The file must be called llms.txt, all in lower case.
Upload it to the top folder
Put it in your website's root folder, so it opens at yourdomain.com/llms.txt. That's the address Chrome's Lighthouse checks.
Open it to check
Type that address into a browser. You should see your file as plain text. If your website builder can't add a file there, ask its support.
How do I make an llms.txt file?
Fill in the form above with your site's name, a one-line summary and links to the pages that matter, then copy the file or download it. Upload it so it opens at your own address with /llms.txt at the end. Whether it is worth doing depends on which AI tools your customers use: Google ignores the file, and other tools each decide for themselves.
Google reads schema markup instead, which the local business schema generator writes, and the website grader checks your whole site. Read what an llms.txt file is for, and how many people search with AI in our AI search statistics.
Questions about llms.txt.
Is the llms.txt generator free?
Yes. You don't need an account. The file is made in your browser as you type, and nothing is sent to us or saved.
Will an llms.txt file get me into ChatGPT or Google's AI answers?
Nobody can promise that. Google says its Search doesn't use llms.txt, and that includes its AI answers. Other AI tools decide for themselves whether to read it.
Where do I put the file?
In the top folder of your website, so it opens at yourdomain.com/llms.txt. Then open that address in a browser to check that your file shows.
What should it link to?
Your main pages: what you offer, your prices, how to book and how to reach you. Pick pages that state those facts as text, not only in a photo or a PDF.
Do PlacePilot websites have one?
Yes. Every PlacePilot website publishes its own llms.txt, written from the site's pages each time it is published. You don't need this tool for it.
When should I update it?
When a page, your hours, your phone number or your booking link changes. Make the file again here and upload it over the old one.
No website yet?
Type your business name. In about three minutes the scan builds one from your Google listing. Free, no card. Once it's published, it writes its own llms.txt.
