WordPress pricing (2026): what a restaurant or café website really costs

WordPress.com has a free plan and four paid ones: Personal at $9 a month, Premium $18, Business $40 and Commerce $70 when paid monthly, or $4, $8, $25 and $45 a month for the first year billed yearly. The WordPress software itself is free from WordPress.org, but then you pay for hosting and a domain and look after the site yourself.

Key takeaways

  • We read WordPress.com's US prices on 7 November 2026, on the monthly, yearly and multi-year views. Prices exclude tax.
  • The yearly prices are first-year prices: Personal renews at $5 a month and Premium at $9.
  • Every paid plan can install plugins, so a menu or booking plugin does not need the Business plan.
  • WordPress.com keeps a share of payments and paid subscriptions taken with its built-in payment tools: 8% on Personal, down to 0% on Commerce, before Stripe's fee.
  • The free plan shows WordPress.com ads to your visitors and keeps you on a wordpress.com address.

What does WordPress.com cost beyond the plan?

The renewal price

The card prices for yearly, 2-year and 3-year terms are introductory. Each card says what it auto-renews at: Personal goes from $4 to $5 a month on a yearly term, Premium from $8 to $9 and Business from $25 to $28. Budget the second year at the renewal price.1

A share of your payments

Paid subscriptions, paid posts and other payments taken with WordPress.com's built-in payment tools carry its own fee on top of Stripe's: 10% on Free, 8% on Personal, 4% on Premium, 2% on Business and 0% on Commerce. Payment buttons are listed from Premium, so a café selling gift vouchers through them gives up 4% of each sale before Stripe takes its cut. WooCommerce payments are a separate case: the pricing FAQ gives them 0% transaction fees on Business and Commerce.1

The domain after year one

Yearly and multi-year plans include a free custom domain for the first year. Monthly plans include none, and from the second year the domain is billed on its own.1

Self-hosting is free software, paid hosting

WordPress.org's download page offers the software free (version 7.1.4 today), for anyone comfortable getting their own hosting and domain. You then pay a host and keep WordPress, its theme and its plugins updated and secure yourself.2

Plugins for menus and bookings

A table-booking or ordering plugin from the marketplace can carry its own subscription on top of the plan. Check each plugin's price before you choose it. If all you need is a clean menu page, our free menu maker builds one you can link from any site.1

Who is WordPress.com for?

WordPress.com suits an owner who wants WordPress's themes and plugins without running a server, and who will build and update the site in its editor. A café with a menu, opening hours and a contact form fits on Personal; payment buttons for vouchers need Premium, where WordPress.com's fee is 4%. Self-hosted WordPress suits a business with a developer or agency that already looks after it. For what a website costs across every route, from builders to agencies, read how much a website costs.
