How to create a Facebook event for your bar, café or tour

To create a Facebook event for your business, switch into your Page, click Events, then + Create new event, add the name, date, time and place, and click Create event. Events hosted by a Page are always public, and a weekly night can be one recurring event that repeats up to 52 times.

Key takeaways

  • Create the event while you are switched into your business Page, so the Page is the host and the event is public.
  • A quiz night or a daily walking tour can be one recurring event, set to repeat daily or weekly up to 52 times.
  • Each host can send up to 500 invites per event, and Facebook may pause invites that people ignore.
  • Privacy, the Guests Can Invite Friends setting and the ticket cost are fixed once the event exists.
  • Only a Page can add another Page as co-host, so add the brewery's or band's Page from your own Page's event.

Why run events from your Facebook Page?

A Page event is public, so anyone can find it, share it and answer Interested or Going, and it stays on the Page as a record of what you run. That suits the things a venue repeats: a Tuesday quiz, a monthly wine tasting, a sunset tour. Facebook is one place people look; the same night belongs on your Google Business Profile as an event post too, which our guide to Google Business posts walks through.

How do you create an event on a Facebook business Page?

  1. 1. Switch into your Page

Log in, click your profile photo in the top right, click See all profiles and pick your business Page. An event made from your personal profile is hosted by you, and its privacy cannot be changed later.1

  2. 2. Open Events and click + Create new event

From your Feed, click Events in the left menu (you may need See more first), then + Create new event on the left.1

  3. 3. Name it the way a guest would search

Add the event name, date and time, and choose In person or Virtual. "Tuesday quiz at The Anchor, 8pm" tells people more than "Quiz night".1

  4. 4. Fill in the details and the cover photo

Under What are the details?, add the location, a cover photo and a description: what happens, what it costs, whether to book, and where to park. Our free social post generator drafts that description from your business details if you are stuck on the wording.2

  5. 5. Make a weekly night repeat

Scroll down and click Repeat event, choose Daily or Weekly under Frequency, and set an end date and time. An event can recur 52 times at most, and its location and timezone are locked once it has started.3

  6. 6. Add co-hosts

Hosts and co-hosts can invite people, add more co-hosts and edit the details. From a personal profile you can only add Facebook friends as co-hosts. Only a Page can add another Page, so to co-host with the band's or the brewery's Page, add it from your Page's event.4

  7. 7. Create it, then invite and share

Click Create event. Each host can send up to 500 invites per event, and Facebook may limit invites for a while if many go unanswered. For a public event, share it to your Page and stories, or run an ad from it.5

  8. 8. Swap the cover photo if you need to

After the event exists, open it, click Edit, then Add, and pick a GIF, a photo from the gallery or an upload. You can reposition it, but you can't change its size once it is on the event, so crop it before you upload.7

  9. 9. Know what you can change later

You can edit the name, the location, the description, the cover photo, the co-hosts and the date and time (up to a couple of days before). You can't edit privacy, Guests Can Invite Friends or the ticket cost; to change those, cancel the event and make it again.6

Questions

How do I create an event on Facebook as a business?

Switch into your business Page, click Events in the left menu, then + Create new event. Add the name, date, time and whether it is in person or virtual, fill in the details and click Create event. Events hosted by a Page are always public.

Can I make a Facebook event repeat every week?

Yes, from a Page. While creating the event, click Repeat event, choose Weekly or Daily and set an end date. An event can recur up to 52 times.

Can I change a Facebook event from private to public?

No. Facebook does not let you change an event's privacy after you create it. Cancel it and create a new one with the right setting.

How many people can I invite to a Facebook event?

Each person can send up to 500 invites per event. Facebook may limit invites for a short time if many people don't respond.

Can I sell tickets on a Facebook event?

Paid events are only available to Page accounts, and the ticket cost can't be edited after the event is created, so set it before you publish.

Why can't I add a Page as a co-host?

From a personal profile you can only add Facebook friends as co-hosts. Only a Page can add another Page, so create the event from your Page.
